Let’s take care of vulnerable persons before thinking of offering them “medical assistance in dying”

Following the re-introduction of Bill C-7, modifying the law on medical assistance in dying, the citizen network Living with Dignity (LWD) and the Physicians’ Alliance against Euthanasia (the Alliance) urge the federal government to take into account the lessons of the ...

Stopping the evil domino chain. March 2020 Newsletter of the Physicians’ Alliance against Euthanasia

Dear Friends,

A few short years ago, when we were first confronted with the possibility of euthanasia, many warned of a slippery slope that would lead to fearful unknown conclusions. Experience has shown that a better analogy would be that of falling dominoes, where it becomes obvious what reactions are to follow in this terrible chain of events.

For this is nothing like a sudden impetuous slide. ...

Alert from a growing number of Canadian physicians

“We are being bullied to participate in Medical Assistance in Dying”

Montréal, March 9, 2020 – The Physicians’ Alliance against Euthanasia has received reports that unwilling physicians are being pressured and bullied to participate in Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD): euphemism for euthanasia and assisted suicide.  Fearing reprisals, physicians have asked that no information that could identify them be disclosed.

The pressure has been intense for many physicians, especially amongst palliative specialists, ...

Do we collectively seek the most permissive voluntary euthanasia program in the world?

Following Monday’s tabling of Bill C-7 in the Canadian Parliament, Living with Dignity and the Physicians’ Alliance against Euthanasia deplore this new chapter in a political approach leading step by step to death on demand for suffering people in Canada. Press release: Quebec legislation regarding medical assistance in dying

The Physicians’ Alliance against Euthanasia wishes to express its astonishment at the Quebec government’s recklessness in the face of the reality experienced by sick, vulnerable and suffering people in our society who are not necessarily at the end of their lives.

In a decision handed down on September 11, 2019 in the Truchon and Gladu case, the Quebec Superior Court invalidated the “end of life” criterion and its federal counterpart “reasonably foreseeable natural death” as a condition of access to medical ...

Message from the Canadian Physicians for life: Delta Hospice update

You have probably been aware of the BC Government’s order for the Delta Hospice to start providing MAiD on-site.

The hospice has pointed out to the government that it would be in violation of the Societies Act if it provided MAiD. The Societies Act says that the Delta Hospice must act within its Charter and that Charter requires the hospice to help people ‘live fully”

The Hospice has also offered ...

Dear friends,

On September 11, 2019, Quebec Superior Court judge Christine Baudouin ruled that the prohibition of “medical assistance in dying” of people who are not at the “end of life” (in the Quebec law) or whose death is not “reasonably foreseeable” ( Canadian law) is unconstitutional. Elated by its victory, the death lobby is now pressing the Prime Minister to weaken the law even further by removing the requirement that ...

Dear members and supporters,

Bill 207, Conscience Rights (Health Care Providers) Protection Act passed its first vote on November 7th, 2019 and was debated yesterday by the Standing Committee of the Alberta Legislative Assembly.

A lack of public input was a major concern. The committee will debate again later this week, allowing a limited number of stakeholder presentations for each side and unlimited written submissions, to inform them of public opinion on the issue.

Without adequate public support for ...

Who is left to defend ill and disabled patients? October-November 2019 Newsletter of the Physicians’ Alliance against Euthanasia

“Things are what they are”, runs traditional wisdom. True or false. Right or wrong.

But that was yesterday. Now, apparently, things are whatever you would like them to be:

  • Jean Truchon and Nicole Gladu, for instance, believe that they should have access to euthanasia because of their disabilities, even though they are in no way near the “end of life” as stipulated by the law.
  • The euthanasia lobby agreed enthusiastically with this claim, and provided the ...
