Euthanasia in Belgium: From Legalization to Promotion

Belgian physician Georges Casteur, board member of the Belgian Society of ethics and medical morality, states that the evolution of the practice of euthanasia in Belgium is a typical case of a slippery slope and predicts it will be the same in Quebec if Bill 52 is implemented.

At the invitation of the Physicians’ Alliance Against Euthanasia, Dr. Casteur gave a seminar on June 8 in Montreal, which can be watched here (in French), based on 11 years of experience of euthanasia in Belgium and the conclusions formulated ...

Reaction of the Physicians’ Alliance against Euthanasia to the adoption of Bill 52

"The battle has just begun"

Montreal XX February 2014 – The Physicians’ Alliance against Euthanasia denounces the adoption of Act 52, "An Act respecting end-of-life care". This constitutes a serious betrayal of the sick and the dying, as the act of killing a terminally ill patient is not treatment, but homicide. Our MNAs have also failed in their duty to the entire population of Quebec by trying to fundamentally change the very definition of medicine, the concept of health care and ...

Open Letter to Dr. Philippe Couillard

Dear Dr Couillard,

We congratulate you on your victory in the April 7 election. Nonetheless we feel compelled to express our deep disappointment, and that of many medical colleagues and other Quebec citizens, at your announcement the day after the election that you intend to reintroduce Bill 52, including medical aid in dying.

Knowing that in October 2013 you expressed serious reservations about the “medical aid in dying” component of Bill 52, we are mystified by your about-face on this very grave ...

Their position has been taken.  It is time ...

The American College of Pediatricians takes a stance against euthanasia for children.

In a press release dated February 17, 2014, the American College of Pediatricians state that “Physicians are Healers, not Killers”. The are “appalled by Netherlands’ recent legalization of Neonatal Euthanasia and Belgium’s legalization of euthanasia for terminally ill children of any age.”
