Because Life is Worth Living |
Montreal, June 15, 2020 – As the governments of Canada and Quebec explore the scope of expanding medical assistance in dying, a euphemism for euthanasia, the citizen network Living with Dignity (LWD) proposes a new web series entitled “Because life is worth living”. The three videos in the series, which have been broadcast via its social networks over the past few weeks, are available as of today on the LWD website, https://vivredignite.org/en. They can also be accessed via YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. The short videos – in French, with English captioning available – present testimonials on how we see the dignity of life in people at the end of life, but also in those living with a physical disability or a degenerative disease such as Alzheimer’s. They feature a palliative care specialist, Dr. Patrick Vinay; a car crash victim who lived through a period of despair, Gordon Friesen; and nurse Angela Barrett who cares for people with Alzheimer’s disease. “Every life is important, always, and the most vulnerable people deserve to be cared for and protected as long as they are alive,” says Dr. Patrick Vinay, President of LWD. Those interested in becoming an ally of VDD, as more than 6,000 people have already done, can take a simple step via https://vivredignite.org/en/get-involved-2. Living with Dignity is a Québec-based citizen network with no religious or political affiliation, incorporated in Montreal on May 19, 2010 as a non-profit organization. We believe in a society where each and every person has the opportunity to live in dignity, that is, with the certainty that their life will be valued to the last moments – regardless of their physical condition or state of health. We therefore work to promote the protection of life, inherent dignity and accompaniment of people made vulnerable by illness, old age or disability, until their natural death. Dr. Vinay is available for media interviews. For more information : Charmine Francis Living with Dignity 438.931.1233 |
