Make Euthanasia unimaginable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4095 size-full alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/collectifmedecins.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/May-2018.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"214\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In case anyone thinks the Canadian approach to euthanasia is the best or only approach, we have only to look to our nearest neighbour for proof to the contrary.<\/p>\n<p>Recently the American Medical Association\u2019s\u00a0<em>Council on Ethical and Juridical Affairs<\/em>, having received a request from the Oregon delegation that the AMA \u00a0take a neutral stance on physician \u201caid-in-dying\u201d, instead reaffirmed the very clear statements in the existing Code of Ethics regarding both\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ama-assn.org\/delivering-care\/euthanasia\">euthanasia<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ama-assn.org\/delivering-care\/physician-assisted-suicide\">physician-assisted suicide.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Physician-assisted suicide<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0is fundamentally incompatible with the physician\u2019s role as healer, would be difficult or impossible to control, and would pose serious societal risks. Instead of engaging in assisted suicide, physicians must aggressively respond to the needs of patients at the end of life.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Euthanasia<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0is fundamentally incompatible with the physician\u2019s role as healer, would be difficult or impossible to control, and would pose serious societal risks. Euthanasia could readily be extended to incompetent patients and other vulnerable populations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The involvement of physicians in euthanasia heightens the significance of its ethical prohibition.
