{"id":1428,"date":"2016-04-29T15:29:32","date_gmt":"2016-04-29T19:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/collectif.lesartsmartial.com\/en\/?p=1428"},"modified":"2016-05-02T17:11:08","modified_gmt":"2016-05-02T21:11:08","slug":"jacques-brassard-worried-by-bill-52","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/collectifmedecins.org\/en\/jacques-brassard-worried-by-bill-52\/","title":{"rendered":"Jacques Brassard worried by Bill 52"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an open letter to Le Journal de Qu\u00e9bec (February 7th 2014)\u00a0titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.journaldequebec.com\/2013\/10\/10\/hors-de-lecran-radar\">&#8220;L&#8217;euthanasie: l\u00e9gale mais toujours immorale&#8221; (Euthanasia: legal but still immoral)<\/a>,\u00a0the\u00a0former p\u00e9quiste\u00a0MNA Jacques Brassard worried about the &#8220;terrible scope&#8221;\u00a0of the\u00a0assured adoption\u00a0of\u00a0Bill 52.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Monsieur Brassard did not mince words:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Provoqued death, euthanasia,\u00a0is no more dignified than the suicide of a\u00a0youth\u00a0or\u00a0death by\u00a0homicide.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Eliminating the one who is suffering,\u00a0even\u00a0at\u00a0his\u00a0request, is not\u00a0demonstrating proof of compassion.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;We can&#8217;t really speak of a free and\u00a0informed consent\u00a0when it\u00a0pertains to people who are sick, suffering, aging,\u00a0often desperate\u00a0and abandoned.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Euthanasia\u00a0corrupts the\u00a0doctor&#8217;s primary mission.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;It is not because a parlimentary majority, even if it represents a notable\u00a0part of the population decides to authorize euthanasia by law that this way of bringing about death is moral.\u00a0If Capital Punishment is immoral, euthanasia is even more so because it concerns innocent people.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;In the few states where euthanasia is legalised, we\u00a0have observed regrettable\u00a0deviations.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thank you, Mr. Brassard, for explaining things so well. Thank you for your audacity.<\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0wake\u00a0of this open letter, many other questions are currently being asked:<\/p>\n<p>Why did the government choose to ignore the deviations which occured in Belgium, where euthanasia has been legal for 10 years and where they are preparing to legalise euthanasia for minors?<\/p>\n<p>Why does the government stubbornly cling to spreading havoc\u00a0for Quebec Palliative Care?\u00a0The vast majority of palliative care specialists have clearly manifested their opposition to Bill 52.\u00a0They have expressed that they will not collaborate\u00a0with the\u00a0killing of\u00a0patients\u00a0through &#8220;medical aid in dying&#8221;. We must hear them!<\/p>\n<p>Under what pretense\u00a0is the government ignoring that vulnerable\u00a0people cannot give a free and informed consent?<\/p>\n<p>We can still hope against hope, the adoption of Bill 52 is not assured.
